Privacy Policy

The most important point is simple: the answers you write in Love, Decoded stay in your browser on your device. Lit & Witty cannot read them.

Who is responsible

Lit & Witty is responsible for the personal information described in this policy. For privacy questions or requests, email litandwitty@gmail.com.

Information we use

  • Account information: your email address, verification status and technical account identifier are used to create and secure your login.
  • Purchase information: your purchase email, transaction number, product, payment status and related customer details are used to confirm access and support purchases.
  • Support information: information you choose to send when asking us for help.
  • Technical information: limited server, security and error information may be processed by our hosting providers to deliver and protect the site.

We do not use advertising trackers or sell personal information.

Anonymous quiz age ranges

The quiz optionally asks for an age range: 18–24, 25–34, 35–44, 45–54 or 55+. You can skip this question. We keep only a total count for each range to understand the broad age groups taking the quiz. We do not store individual age submissions, exact ages or dates of birth.

The age request contains only the selected range, without account cookies, quiz answers, results or purchase details. We do not link these counts to accounts or purchases, and your age choice does not affect scoring. Our hosting provider may process ordinary technical request information to deliver and protect the service. Aggregate counts are retained without an individual record to identify or delete.

Gift purchases

A gift buyer supplies the recipient’s email before checkout. Paddle stores it with the purchase so we can verify who may redeem it. The buyer shares the gift link directly; we do not automatically email the recipient. The recipient creates her own password through Firebase and verifies that email before access is granted.

After redemption we retain the recipient email and transaction number so the recipient can sign in again on another device. These access records are kept while needed to provide the gift and can be reviewed or deleted through a privacy request, subject to legal retention requirements. The buyer cannot see the recipient’s password or journal responses.

Your journal responses

Your answers, notes, relationship blueprint and date entries are stored locally by your browser on your device. They are not sent to Lit & Witty, Firebase or Paddle. Lit & Witty cannot view, recover or transfer those responses.

If you clear the site’s browser data, use a different browser or move to another device, your previous responses may not appear. You can use the journal’s print option to keep your own copy.

Why we use account and purchase information

We use the minimum account and purchase information needed to provide the journal you bought, verify access, prevent unauthorised use, answer support requests and comply with legal obligations.

Our principal legal bases are performance of our contract with you, compliance with legal obligations, and our legitimate interests in securing and operating the service. We do not use this information for unrelated marketing without an appropriate legal basis.

Service providers

  • Google Firebase provides account creation, email verification, sign-in and password resets. Lit & Witty cannot see your password.
  • Paddle is the Merchant of Record and processes checkout, payments, tax, receipts, purchase records, refunds and buyer support.
  • Website hosting and security providers deliver the site and may process necessary technical request information.

These providers process information under their own terms and privacy notices. Some processing may occur outside the UK; where required, appropriate legal safeguards are used.

Cookies and browser storage

We use essential browser storage for your journal responses and the sign-in services needed to keep you logged in. After a verified purchase, an essential secure access cookie remembers your access for up to one year. These are required for the journal to work and are not used for advertising.

You can remove them through your browser settings. Doing so may sign you out and permanently delete journal responses stored on that device.

How long information is kept

  • Journal responses remain on your device until you clear them.
  • Your login account is kept while you use the service and can be deleted on request, subject to information we must retain by law.
  • The essential access cookie expires after no more than one year unless refreshed by a later verified sign-in.
  • Support correspondence is normally kept for up to two years so we can resolve and document your request.
  • Paddle retains transaction and tax records according to its legal obligations and retention policy.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information, restrict or object to its use, and receive a portable copy. Email litandwitty@gmail.com to make a request. We may need to verify your identity.

You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, or to the relevant regulator where you live.

Security and updates

We use access controls, verified email sign-in, secure cookies and purchase checks designed to protect the service. No online system can promise absolute security. We may update this notice when the service, providers or law changes; the current version will remain available here.
